The Gold Coast’s first African Festival was held on November 18 at the Nerang Bicentennial Hall.

The festival was a huge success with many people attending. Gold Coast councilor Peter Young welcomed everyone to the first Gold Coast African festival.

There was traditional African food, an Ethiopian coffee ceremony, entertainers from all parts of Africa which included African drumming and acrobats, Liberian Children dancing, Burundi choir and dance troupe, and Abyssinian dancers.

The entertainment went on into the night with plenty of refreshments and food to satisfy everyone.

There were also displays of African artifacts, baskets, clothing and T-shirts for sale.

President Tewodros (Teddy) Fekadu was overwhelmed by the success of the festival and intends to run one each year.
